Members’ Code of Conduct

The Club’s Commitment to Our Community

The KW Granite Club board and staff are dedicated to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all our members and guests. We believe in the spirit of good sporting behaviour, respect, and camaraderie that curling embodies.

To uphold these values, we commit to:

  1. Creating a Safe Space: We are committed to maintaining a club atmosphere where everyone feels safe and respected. We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or any form of exclusion based on race, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, or any other grounds.
  2. Promoting Accessibility: We strive to ensure that our facilities, programs, and events are accessible to all individuals. We actively work to remove barriers and provide accommodations to enable full participation in the sport of curling and at club events.
  3. Fostering Tolerance and Understanding: We encourage open-mindedness and respect for diverse perspectives. Our club promotes a culture of understanding and empathy, where differences are celebrated and everyone feels valued.
  4. Upholding Player Rights: We encourage members to actively participate in club events and activities. Members are invited to volunteer and contribute to the club's community and operations.

We are committed to these principles and will continuously work to uphold them. Together, we can create a vibrant and inclusive community where everyone can enjoy the sport of curling.

Member’s Commitment to Our Community

Just as the club has a responsibility to create a safe and welcoming environment for our curling community, everyone at the club has a responsibility to others as we continue to build community and create an atmosphere that is fun, safe, and supportive for good times and good curling. Members, visitors, guests and guardians (hereafter called “members”) are all expected to uphold the following obligations:

Behavior and Etiquette
  • Sporting Behaviour: Members should demonstrate good sportsmanship both on and off the ice, acting with honesty and integrity. Everyone is expected to respect the rules of the game, and the decisions of officials. Inappropriate expressions of anger are not acceptable.
  • Observing Etiquette: Members should observe the club's etiquette and customs on and off the ice, to maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere.
  • Intoxication and Substance Use: Excessive alcohol or cannabis use will not be tolerated. Bartenders will refuse service to anyone who exhibits behaviour that would suggest the person is intoxicated. All use of illicit substances will not be tolerated.
Inclusivity and Non-Discrimination
  • Inclusivity: Members are expected to create an inclusive and welcoming environment, showing respect for members of all backgrounds and orientations.
  • Non-Discrimination: Any form of discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, or other grounds is prohibited.
Safety and Well-being
  • Kindness and Conduct: Behaviour exhibited on and off the ice can have strong positive or negative effects on others at the club. As a community we strive to be kind and courteous. Engaging in bullying/harassment, sexual harassment, or violence of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • Adherence to Safety Protocols: Members must follow all safety guidelines and instructions provided by the club, particularly when on the ice or in designated areas. This includes wearing appropriate footwear and adhering to safety notices.
  • Mental and Emotional Well-being: Members should be mindful of the mental and emotional health of others, refraining from behaviors that could cause distress.
Club Facilities and Property
  • Respect for Property: Members are expected to treat club facilities, equipment, and property with care and respect.
  • Cleanliness and Maintenance: Members should contribute to keeping the club clean and report any damage or maintenance issues.
